Summary
A year-long weekly survey of Gungdae Oreum, part of the Jeju Eastern Oreum Group (JEOG), revealed 69 bird species, including nine nationally protected and 22 breeding species. While seasonal changes in species richness were minimal due to dominance by resident forest birds, rarefaction curves suggested higher biodiversity during spring and autumn migrations, with an estimated asymptotic richness of 83 species—exceeding the observed count. This underscores the need for long-term, standardized monitoring to fully capture the avifauna's diversity in this ecologically significant volcanic region.
