Summary

A new succulent shrub species, Othonna koos-bekkeri, has been identified in the mountains of northern Namaqualand and southern Richtersveld, South Africa. This discovery resolves long-standing confusion with its smaller relative, Othonna arbuscula, by highlighting distinct morphological features such as ascending rod-like stems, lateral spur-shoots, and sub-umbellate yellow flower heads that bloom leafless during autumn. The study, published in Bradleya, relied on field observations and taxonomic analysis to distinguish the new species within the Succulent Karoo Biome, contributing to the region's botanical diversity.
