Summary
A rare, well-preserved Roman macellum (market) at Djémila, dating to Emperor Antoninus Pius' reign, offers new insights into ancient urban planning and euregetism. Unlike the few other studied macella, this one's proximity to the forum and exceptional epigraphic wealth allowed researchers to reconstruct its architecture, including a 3D model, while analyzing construction techniques. The study also sheds light on the identity of its benefactor, revealing how wealthy individuals funded public infrastructure in Roman cities.
