Summary

Research on adaptive re-use principles in historic hotel buildings within Melaka and George Town, UNESCO World Heritage Sites, reveals moderate conservation levels in these structures. The study identified 35 hotels employing adaptive re-use strategies but found that current practices may not fully adhere to international conservation guidelines. Through case studies of four heritage hotels, the research highlights the need for stricter controls to preserve the integrity of these buildings while optimizing their functional use. Recommendations are proposed to enhance future adaptive re-use projects in alignment with conservation principles.
