Summary

Air pollution levels in Lahore, Pakistan, significantly exceed environmental standards, with the highest concentrations of gaseous pollutants and particulate matter recorded near industrial and high-traffic areas. The study found that carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen oxides (NO and NO2), sulfur dioxide (SO2), ozone (O3), PM10, and PM2.5 levels surpassed Punjab Environmental Quality Standards (PEQS) across all monitored sites, with the worst conditions observed at Lahore Fort for PM10 (156.17 µg/m³) and SO2 (129.31 µg/m³). Vehicular and industrial emissions were identified as primary contributors to this pollution. The findings underscore the urgent need for stricter industrial pollution controls and public awareness campaigns to mitigate health risks associated with poor air quality.
