Summary
A comparative analysis of Minnan and Hakka Tulou, the distinctive rammed earth dwellings of Fujian, China, reveals significant differences in their typological-functional and constructive features. By examining eight case studies, researchers at Roma Tre University and Fuzhou University identified patterns that distinguish these two families of structures. The study aims to lay the groundwork for a comprehensive 'Manual on Tulou restoration,' which will document original materials and techniques while investigating construction phases, architectural details, and mechanical behavior. This ongoing research seeks to preserve and spread knowledge about these unique architectures, contributing to their conservation efforts.
