Summary

Urban renewal efforts in Ardakan, Yazd, Iran's historic district face significant challenges, with a stark contrast between the perspectives of residents and local officials. Despite restoration initiatives in the 1990s, issues such as dilapidated, abandoned buildings (DABs), urban decay, and inadequate parking persist, threatening the area's heritage. The study advocates for an integrated urban renewal framework (URF) that incorporates both governance and resident perspectives to effectively promote the historic district. This approach is based on qualitative interviews with local stakeholders, a review of city documents, and observational data, providing valuable insights into the dynamics of urban renewal in historic districts.
