Summary
Tourism significantly impacts the ecological integrity of trails within Brazil's Reserva Ecológica da Joatinga. Researchers identified severe degradation, including litter accumulation, erosion, and burned areas along two popular trails: Praia do Sono - Praia de Antigos and Enseada de Ponta Negra – Praia de Galhetas. The study employed perceptual methodologies to assess trail characteristics, such as size, obstacles (degraus, roots, rocks), and degradation levels. Findings reveal that despite the site's protective status, tourism-induced damage is widespread, posing risks to biodiversity conservation efforts.
