Summary
A previously unknown chapter from Simón de Argote's Nuevos Paseos (1806–1807), detailing the Generalife and its surrounding Arab ruins, has been recovered. This text, dedicated to King José Bonaparte during his tenure in Granada, offers a rare illustrated response to misconceptions about Granada's Roman past, countering claims by Velázquez de Echeverría. The chapter sheds new light on Argote's overlooked career and his connections with figures like Horace Sebastiani, a Napoleonic diplomat. Through archival research across diverse sources, the study reconstructs this lost manuscript, providing critical insights into 19th-century scholarship on Islamic heritage in Spain.
