Summary
A significant reduction in subsidence hazards has transformed the historic center of Wieliczka, Poland, into a more stable and visually appealing urban space. The study highlights that targeted underground mining safety works eliminated the risk of sinkholes, which had long threatened the area. Historical documentation, including maps, engravings, and photographs, played a crucial role in conservation efforts by providing valuable insights into the town's development over centuries. Adopted in 2010, the local spatial development plan further guided urban improvements, leading to revalorization projects that enhanced public spaces for both residents and tourists during the first two decades of the 21st century.
