Summary
A micromechanical finite element approach successfully models the nonlinear seismic response of Fujian Hakka Tulous, UNESCO-listed circular earthen structures in China. Despite lacking binders, the Concrete Damaged Plasticity model effectively captures the behavior of earthen walls under seismic loads, demonstrating reliable results for large-scale structures like these 50-meter-diameter Tulous. This study advances understanding of their resilience to medium-magnitude earthquakes and suggests potential for future validation through experimental or observational research.
