Summary

A precise measurement of the SE-03 borehole's inclination on Surtsey Volcano reveals that its average deviation from vertical is 33.4±0.2°, slightly less than the planned 35°. This minor discrepancy, corrected for in the study, confirms the location of a volcanic intrusion directly beneath the Surtur crater, identified as the feeder dyke for the 1966-67 eruption. The borehole's actual path was found to be 8 meters shorter and 4.7 meters deeper than designed, with a total vertical depth of 294.7±1.2 meters. These findings enhance the accuracy of stratigraphic interpretations derived from the SE-03 drill core, supporting the understanding of Surtsey's submarine structure and volcanic activity.
