Summary
Film-induced tourism can effectively promote destinations, even when portrayals are negative or distorted. This study compares three distinct cases—Transylvania (Romania), Bali (Indonesia), and George Town (Malaysia)—to evaluate the long-term impact of film-induced strategies on destination image and sustainability. The research employs a mixed-methods approach, analyzing how visual representations in films shape tourist perceptions and demand. Findings suggest that while tourism planners have limited control over film content, strategic alignment with desired destination images can yield sustainable benefits, particularly in emerging markets navigating post-COVID-19 challenges.
