Summary
A pilot project in Dahshur, Egypt, successfully demonstrated that integrating local community youth into heritage tourism and conservation efforts can enhance the protection of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The initiative trained youths as tour guides and heritage guardians, focusing on archaeological, natural, and rural resources while fostering awareness and economic engagement. This approach revealed that empowering local communities through education and involvement is crucial for sustainable heritage management and combating threats like looting and neglect. By addressing the marginalization of locals in heritage governance, the project laid a foundation for more effective conservation strategies in Egypt.
