Summary

Tongariro National Park's visual representation has persisted with ahistorical colonial narratives, contrasting sharply with Uluru-Kata Tjuta's postcolonial transformation. This study reveals that while Uluru-Kata Tjuta underwent significant revisions to highlight Aboriginal cultural presence and economic recovery, Tongariro's imagery remains unchanged, prioritizing tourism and filmic consumption over Maori cultural associations. The analysis compares 20th-century archival materials with early 21st-century government branding strategies, exposing enduring colonial influences in landscape representation.
