Summary
Researchers have identified three new species of the caddisfly genus Ochrotrichia within the UNESCO-listed Parque Nacional da Tijuca, an Atlantic Forest area in Rio de Janeiro. These discoveries—Ochrotrichia nematomorpha, O. sagitta, and O. taunay—expand the known biodiversity of this region, with each species exhibiting unique morphological traits such as a plate-like tergum X (nematomorpha) or distinctive arrowhead-like and spine-like projections on tergum X (sagitta and taunay). Additionally, the study reports the first occurrence of O. caatinga in Rio de Janeiro state. The findings were based on morphological analysis and contribute to the understanding of Trichoptera diversity in Atlantic Forest ecosystems.
