Summary

Europe's colonial past, particularly the erasure of colonial violence from collective memory, perpetuates a racialized identity that conflicts with its current multiracial and multireligious composition. This study examines Berlin's Museum Island and the proposed Humboldt Forum as case studies, revealing how non-European collections are framed within Europe's cultural heritage in ways that contrast sharply with narratives surrounding refugees from the same regions. The research uses the 2015 refugee crisis as a focal point to explore these tensions, highlighting discrepancies in memory discourses and their implications for postunification Germany and Europe.
