Summary
A new model for assessing the management and impact of UNESCO World Heritage Sites (WHS) on local territories has been developed, focusing on qualitative aspects such as knowledge, conservation, valorization, and communication. The study highlights significant social and economic impacts, particularly in cases like the viticultural landscapes of Langhe, Monferrato, and Roero, where the candidacy process itself became a public phenomenon. By analyzing multiple Italian WHS—including Val d'Orcia, Naples, Genoa, Florence, Pienza, Royal Residences, Val Camonica, and Alberobello—the research evaluates governance strategies and their long-term effects on heritage preservation and territorial development. The model synthesizes international frameworks with local case studies to provide a comprehensive understanding of WHS management from inception to sustained impact.
