Summary
A comprehensive analysis of geological heritage sites (geosites) in the Western Caucasus reveals their significant temporal diversity, spanning from the late Proterozoic to the Quaternary. The study distinguishes between geological ages—reflecting the content of geosites—and technical ages—indicating their physical appearance. Among 17 analyzed geosites, most are technically old (pre-19th century), though historical and young features (21st century) also prevail. This research not only systematizes the ages of these geosites but also highlights practical implications for conservation, prioritizing technically young sites while arranging others logically for educational and touristic purposes. The findings underscore the region's sedimentary succession completeness from the Cisuralian to Early Cretaceous periods.
