Summary

Vilnius's identity as a city of mercy and pilgrimage is deeply rooted in its cultural and religious heritage, which plays a pivotal role in shaping the experiences of both residents and visitors. A study published in Logos reveals that sustainably integrating this heritage into urban spaces fosters authentic encounters with the city’s history, religion, and culture. Using ethnographic fieldwork data collected between 2018–2022, tourism sources, and historical records—including the diary of St. Faustina Kowalska—the research demonstrates how religious sites and narratives can create a unique urban atmosphere while contributing to a broader European identity. The findings suggest that deliberate preservation and storytelling around heritage can enhance cultural understanding and pilgrimage experiences.
