Summary
A high-accuracy analysis of land use and occupation in nine watersheds of the Lower Iguaçu River reveals significant variations in environmental preservation. The Floriano River sub-basin stands out for its highest degree of conservation, followed by Silva Jardim and Gonçalves Dias, both partially or fully within Iguaçu National Park. Conversely, Monteiro and Sarandi sub-basins exhibit minimal vegetation cover, while Capanema, Cotejipe, Andrada, and Santo Antônio sub-basins show intermediate conditions. This study utilized satellite imagery with a Kappa coefficient ranging from 99.4 to 99.9%, providing a baseline for environmental planning, monitoring, and conservation efforts in this region.
