Summary

A comprehensive archaeological survey in the Central Zagros, Iran, has uncovered 21 previously unknown Paleolithic to Epipaleolithic sites, significantly expanding our understanding of human occupation in the region during the late Pleistocene. This study challenges the previous focus on Mount Bisotun by systematically exploring intermountain valleys and foothills near Harsin, revealing a more dispersed pattern of early human settlement. The research employed intensive surveys to identify and document these sites, providing critical insights into prehistoric human activity in one of the most significant archaeological regions of the Zagros Mountains.
