Summary

Tourism significantly contributes to the socio-economic development of the Maasai community in Tanzania's Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCA), accounting for 92% of the area's total economy and generating substantial employment. Despite some claims of minimal economic impact, residents widely appreciate the social and economic changes brought by tourism, particularly in livestock services, education, healthcare, culture, lifestyle, resource ownership, and infrastructure development. A survey of 120 local residents from four wards revealed that tourism plays a pivotal role in enhancing their quality of life, challenging perceptions of its limited benefits.
