Summary

Soil erosion is the most critical factor increasing desertification risk in Pa Deng, Thailand, adjacent to Kaeng Krachan National Park. The study, using the MEDALUS Model combined with GIS and remote sensing, identified that while climatic aridity and human land use also contribute, soil degradation—particularly erosion—dominates the moderate desertification risk observed across most of the plain area. These findings highlight the urgent need for targeted soil conservation strategies to mitigate environmental degradation in this UNESCO World Heritage-adjacent region.
