Summary
Full community engagement is critical for the sustainable management of mangrove forests, according to findings from a study conducted in Lamu, Kenya. The research highlighted that while respondents recognized the importance of governance standards and gender-inclusive participation, they perceived existing decision-making processes as inadequate. This suggests that enhancing transparency and inclusivity in governance could significantly improve mangrove conservation efforts. The study employed a mixed-methods approach, combining questionnaires and interviews with 296 respondents, to assess the impact of community engagement on decision-making for sustainable mangrove management.
