Summary

A study identifies key factors influencing public views on private shoreline development along Ontario's historic Rideau Canal and Trent-Severn Waterway. Using exploratory multinomial logistic regression analysis, researchers found that perceptions of environmental threat, views on shoreline development, property ownership, and waterway usage significantly predict attitudes toward such development. The findings suggest that authorities and conservation groups can use these insights to better anticipate public reactions and tailor engagement programs for stakeholders.
