Summary
A significant recovery of the Eastern Swamp Deer (Rucervus duvaucelii ranjitsinhi) population in Manas National Park, India, has been achieved through targeted conservation efforts. Once nearly exterminated due to political unrest in the late 1980s, the species began reviving after 36 deer were relocated from Kaziranga to Manas between 2014 and 2017. By March 2021, the population had grown to approximately 121 individuals, contributing to the rewilding of the landscape and supporting top predators like tigers. This success underscores the importance of conservation interventions in UNESCO World Heritage Sites for species recovery and ecosystem restoration.
