Summary

New archival evidence challenges the long-held belief that Bishop Vincenzo Arrigoni commissioned Filippo Zaniberti’s altarpiece for Šibenik Cathedral. Analysis of Lucija Ivetić’s 1626 will and 1635 acquisition records from Venice reveals the altarpiece was likely commissioned by a different patron, despite shared origins with Arrigoni and Zaniberti in Brescia. This discovery reshapes understanding of post-Tridentine artistic patronage in Šibenik, highlighting the need for rigorous archival scrutiny to avoid attributional assumptions based on regional connections.
