Summary

Historic buildings constructed with traditional materials, such as coral stone, mud, and mangrove poles, exhibit significant electromagnetic shielding effectiveness (SE), comparable to renowned structures from the Roman Empire. This finding highlights the potential of these materials in mitigating health and security risks posed by electromagnetic radiation (EMR) from modern wireless devices. The study tested buildings in Stone Town of Zanzibar, demonstrating that their construction techniques and materials can effectively shield EMR, offering insights for future building designs to incorporate traditional materials for enhanced shielding properties.
