Summary
A novel interpretation of architectural education during the Enlightenment in Seville reveals its multifaceted nature, blending the study of classical antiquity with practical model-making and the creation of replicas. This approach, centered at the Real Escuela de las Tres Nobles Artes within the Real Alcázar, integrated theoretical knowledge from books, hands-on drawing of antiquities, and the construction of architectural elements or entire structures. The research challenges conventional views by analyzing the school's teachings in relation to other arts and its connection to the Spanish royal palace, using a critical review of existing documentation alongside newly discovered sources. This study, spanning 1771 to 1807, highlights the pivotal role of Francisco de Bruna as both promoter and leading figure in shaping this educational model.
