Summary

Astronomer Phil Uttley's discovery that the X-ray emissions from the black hole Cygnus X-1 possess an implicit musical structure inspired a groundbreaking multimedia installation, Astro Dub Morphologies. This work, created by artists Anna Piva and Edward George in collaboration with astronomer Tim O'Brien from Jodrell Bank Observatory and generative designer Adrian Ward, transformed raw X-ray data into an immersive dub space experience. By leveraging Uttley's findings, the team translated complex astrophysical phenomena into a sensory-rich auditory-visual performance, bridging the gap between scientific data and artistic expression.
