Summary

A notable gap in the historical record of the Levant under Ottoman rule has been addressed by this study, which re-evaluates the feudal governance of the Shiite al-Mutawila sect in Jabal Amel (1804–1830 A.D.). Despite being overlooked by both Lebanese and non-Lebanese historians, this period is crucial for understanding the region's Islamic history. The research adopts an impartial approach, aiming to bridge divisions between Sunni and Shiite communities by providing a detached analysis of al-Mutawila's rule. This study contributes to filling historical lacunae while promoting inter-sectarian understanding.
