Summary
A preliminary analysis of red-slipped pottery from the Late Roman-Early Byzantine period at Letoon, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Turkey, reveals diverse ceramic forms linked to regional and international production. The study identifies African Red-Slipped, Phocaean Red-Slipped, Cypriot Red-Slipped, and Sagalassos Red-Slipped ware, alongside potential local variants, suggesting active trade ties during the 6th–7th centuries CE. Most ceramics date to the Letoon Monastery's operational phase (mid-6th to early 7th century), indicating their association with monastic commerce rather than civilian settlements. This research contributes to understanding ceramic diversity and trade networks in Lycia during this transitional period.
