Summary
Researchers have identified two new species of dorylaim nematodes, Prothornenema vulvatum and Allodorylaimus kazirangus, along with a known species, Thornia propinqua, from Kaziranga National Park in Assam, India. These discoveries contribute to the understanding of nematode biodiversity in this UNESCO World Heritage Site. The study employed detailed morphological descriptions and illustrations to characterize the new species based on key features such as body length, lip region structure, odontostyle length, vulva morphology, and tail shape. Prothornenema vulvatum exhibits unique cuticle invaginations and sexual dimorphism in tail shape, while Allodorylaimus kazirangus stands out with its long, tripartite uterus and asymmetrical ring-like structure at the pharyngeal-cardia junction. The findings expand the known diversity of dorylaim nematodes and highlight the ecological significance of Kaziranga National Park.
