Summary

A new species of sea cucumber, Holothuria (Lessonothuria) coronata sp. nov., has been discovered off Socorro Island in the Revillagigedo Archipelago, Mexico. This species is distinguished by unique morphological features, including circular disc tables with large peripheral holes—sometimes accompanied by a second series—and a spiny or smooth rim on its disc. Additionally, it exhibits a spire crossed by a single cross-beam and ventral tube feet with curved supporting rods bearing spiny edges. The discovery was made through detailed morphological analysis of specimens collected at depths of 5–10 meters, highlighting the biodiversity of this UNESCO-listed marine protected area.
