Summary
A strong correlation between radar backscatter and above-ground biomass (AGB) was identified using ALOS PALSAR data, particularly with HV polarization, demonstrating the potential for accurate biomass and carbon stock estimation in complex tropical environments like Bwindi Impenetrable National Park (BINP). The study leveraged field data from 35 sample plots, analyzing tree diameter, coordinates, and angles to establish relationships between radar backscatter and AGB. This approach highlights ALOS PALSAR's capability for reliable biomass mapping in dense, structurally complex forests, offering valuable insights for bioenergy modeling, climate research, and environmental assessments.
