Summary
A new study reveals that the development of the water-economy-innovation nexus along China's Grand Canal remains underdeveloped with significant regional disparities. While the coupling coordination level is improving, central cities show notably better performance than peripheral areas. Water resources contribute most to this coordination, followed by economic and innovation factors. The research employs an integrated evaluation system and grey correlation analysis, offering critical insights for sustainable development strategies in this historic region.
