Summary
New insights into the construction chronology and techniques of Chartres Cathedral's façade and western bays have emerged from recent archaeological studies, significantly advancing our understanding of this medieval masterpiece. The research, conducted during the cathedral's restoration (2010-2012), employed archaeology of built heritage methods—including scaffolding, cleaning, and stabilization—to analyze the décor, structure, and historical context. Findings revealed complex organizational patterns in the construction process, shedding light on the monument's development and contextualizing it within broader medieval architectural practices. While constraints limited comprehensive results, this study offers valuable contributions to the field by integrating detailed observations with historical analysis.
