Summary

The Poinssot family, comprising Julien (grandfather), Louis, and Claude (father and son), made significant contributions to the study of ancient religions in North Africa, particularly in Tunisia. Julien, initially trained as a notary, pioneered epigraphic studies in Proconsularis but faced challenges due to the colonial context, leading to a brief yet intensive archaeological career. His descendants, Louis and Claude, carried on his legacy, becoming Directors of Antiquities and Museums, respectively. Their work included notable achievements such as the Mahdia underwater excavations and the exploration of the Dougga Capitol, leaving a lasting impact on the field.
