Summary

Researchers have identified Petrocodon asterocalyx as a new species of Gesneriaceae from the Danxia landform area in Guangxi, China. This discovery was supported by both molecular and morphological data, distinguishing it from closely related species such as P. hancei and P. coriaceifolius. Key differentiating features include calyx lobes measuring 20–40 × 2–3 mm, a corolla length of 2.5–3.0 cm, and specific traits in pubescence, staminodes, and stigmas. The study highlights the biodiversity richness of the Danxia landform, contributing to our understanding of plant diversity in this UNESCO World Heritage Site.
