Summary
A hydrogeological study of the groundwater reservoir west of Samarra, Iraq, reveals significant variability in aquifer properties. Analysis of 50 wells identified two distinct aquifers: a semi-confined Injana aquifer and an unconfined Quaternary sediment aquifer. Pumping tests in individual wells determined that transmissivity (T) ranges from 51.8 m²/day in the east to 5.3 m²/day in the west, while hydraulic conductivity (K) varies from 1.23 m/day in the east to 0.119 m/day in the west. The study also found that groundwater flow moves generally from west to east with a slight southern slope. These findings provide critical insights into the hydrogeological conditions of the region, which could inform water resource management strategies for Samarra Archaeological City.
