Summary

A new species of caddisfly, Synagapetus laurisilvanicus, has been discovered in the laurel forests (Laurisilva) of Madeira Island. This endemic species, identified from specimens collected during the 1997–1999 Laurisilva project, is closely related to Synagapetus punctatus but distinguished by unique wing venation and genital morphology, particularly the inferior appendages and aedeagus. The discovery highlights the biodiversity of Madeira's Trichoptera fauna, which has been systematically studied through intensive sampling in springs and streams across the archipelago.
