Summary

From 1973 to 2010, the Sundarbans Reserve Forest (SRF) in Bangladesh experienced minimal overall area loss but significant internal shifts in land cover. Water bodies, mudflats, and barren lands expanded by 0.45%, 19.69%, and 14.81% respectively, while vegetated land declined by 4.01%. This suggests a decline in evergreen vegetation density and canopy closure. Researchers used remote sensing and GIS tools, applying the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) to analyze these changes. The study recommends real-time monitoring systems for future spatial and temporal tracking of SRF's land cover dynamics.
