Summary

A rapid tourism boom in Ibiza and Formentera during the Great Depression (1930–1934) was driven by entrepreneurial innovation, a factor often overlooked in traditional tourism development models. This study highlights how local entrepreneurs capitalized on shifting global demand, creating an internationally recognized tourist industry within a few years. By analyzing economic growth, environmental adaptation, and tourism dynamics, the research demonstrates that entrepreneurship played a pivotal role in Ibiza's transformation into a world-leading destination. The findings challenge conventional narratives by emphasizing human agency over structural or economic determinants.
