Summary

A new Zamia species, Zamia nana, is described from Coclé Province, Panama, resolving long-standing confusion surrounding Zamia acuminata. Research clarifies that Z. acuminata is a Costa Rican endemic restricted to the western Talamanca mountain range, distinct from plants previously misidentified in El Valle de Antón, Panama. The study leverages recently collected material and re-examination of the holotype to correct historical misidentifications and erroneous locality data. This taxonomic clarification enhances understanding of Zamia diversity in Central America.
