Summary

Researchers identified five new halophytic grassland and scrub communities, along with one riparian scrub community, in the Pamir-Alai and western Tian Shan regions of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. These discoveries, including four new plant associations and a novel alliance (Taraxacion murgabici), were made through extensive sampling (217 relevés) between 2014–2019 using Braun-Blanquet methodology and modified TWlNSPAN classification. The study highlights key environmental predictors such as annual vs. perennial species dominance, shrub layer coverage, Irano-Turanian plant presence, temperature, and altitude, which differentiate these communities. This is the first comprehensive syntaxonomical scheme for halophytic vegetation in Middle Asia, though further research is needed to clarify some community positions.
