Summary
Excessive sediment supply from the slopes of the Rio Huasamayo basin is identified as the primary cause of riverbed aggradation, posing significant hydrogeological hazards to the village of Tilcara in Argentina's Quebrada de Humahuaca—a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Unlike traditional models reliant on hydrometeorological data, this study applied the Gavrilovic method (EPM) alongside CORINE Project data to estimate sediment volume and pinpoint critical sub-basins contributing to erosion. These findings highlight vulnerable areas where targeted interventions could mitigate aggradation risks, offering a novel approach for managing sediment-related hazards in data-scarce regions.
