Summary

Comoé National Park (CNP), the largest protected area in West Africa and one of the world's top 20, faces significant anthropogenic pressures that threaten its biodiversity while also impacting riparian communities' survival. The study identifies key socio-cultural, economic, and institutional challenges underlying this management dilemma. Using qualitative approaches and targeted data collection, researchers reveal how political instability in Côte d'Ivoire has exacerbated these pressures, particularly during crises. The research highlights the urgent need for sustainable conservation strategies that balance biodiversity protection with the livelihoods of local populations, offering critical insights for protected area management in similar contexts.
