Summary

A data-driven approach reveals that passive cooling strategies, such as optimizing natural ventilation and reducing surface temperatures of building envelopes exposed to solar radiation, can significantly improve indoor thermal comfort in historic religious buildings like Santa Maria in Trastevere Basilica, Rome. These strategies, when integrated into design scenarios, effectively mitigate overheating issues caused by climate change while preserving the cultural asset. The study demonstrates how digital environment analysis contributes to identifying optimal solutions for energy efficiency and indoor climate suitability in architectural heritage.
