Summary
The Qhapaq Ñan, the Andean Road System, remains a living heritage, demonstrating both its historical significance and contemporary relevance. This study reveals that the Inca road system, spanning from Huánuco Pampa to Huamachuco in the Chinchaysuyu route, exhibits complex architectural infrastructure, functional variability, and symbolic significance tied to diverse landscapes. Fieldwork and archival research conducted between 2009 and 2011 as part of the Proyecto Qhapaq Ñan uncovered these intricacies, while anthropological studies highlight the enduring socio-economic and cultural importance of these pathways among modern Andean communities. The findings underscore the need for thoughtful heritage management to preserve this vibrant legacy.
